Meet the teacher

Hello! I'm Emily Smith, a certified teacher with 18 years of experience helping students become confident, successful writers. For several years, I have incorporated The Baran Method writing program into my teaching.I feel passionately that writing instruction should equip students to be able to communicate clearly and effectively in the real world. The Claim-Evidence-Analysis framework provided in The Baran Method allows students organize their ideas, support their arguments, and communicate more proficiently than any of the other writing programs I have encountered.I am excited to partner with families to help empower students to find their own voice, express their ideas with confidence, and become independent, self-assured writers.

Foundations of Writing Courses

In these live online courses, students do more than complete writing assignments. They learn how to move from reading and thinking to clear, organized writing. Using stories, articles, arguments, and other texts, students learn how to identify important ideas, analyze information, organize their thinking, and communicate those ideas clearly in writing.Students participate in live, interactive writing lessons led by the certified teacher. Each session includes direct instruction, guided practice, and opportunities for discussion and feedback in a supportive online learning environment. Weekly homework assignments provide students with opportunities to practice and strengthen the skills learned in class. The method remains consistent across grade levels while the reading, assignments, and expectations become more advanced. These are the same foundational communication and critical thinking skills that support success in high school, college, and beyond.
